Annual wellness exams are important to detect any problems with your pet’s health before they become a serious issue. They are also a good evaluation of your pet’s general health. In a wellness exam, we assess heart and lung function, vision, hearing, weight, and overall health. Your pet will also be thoroughly checked for any signs of disease, infection, tumors, or other problems. Routine blood and urine testing is a great diagnostic tool for early detection of diseases and to get baseline values of younger pets, as well as to analyze the health of senior pets.
Microchipping is one of the best ways to reunite owners and pets in the unfortunate event that the pet gets lost. Microchips are the size of a grain of rice and are implanted right under the skin of a dog, cat, horse, parrot, or other animal. When scanned, the microchip emits a number which is then used to locate the phone number of the appropriate owner. Unlike collars or other accessories, microchips cannot be lost and are the most reliable form of identification on an animal. We have used microchips to locate owners and return animals within 1 hour of finding lost pets! It is important to make sure your contact information is always current with your microchip company (Home Again- 1-888-466-3242 or Avid- 1-800-336-2843), and that you register with the microchip company as soon as your pet has been microchipped! If you are unsure which company your pet is microchipped with, we are glad to scan your pet to determine which chip they have.
Routine vaccinations are one of the key steps owners can take to prevent their pets from illnesses and death caused by infectious diseases. Vaccines protect by preparing the animals immune system to fight these diseases. Keeping up with your pets vaccines is one of the best ways to keep your pet (and other pets in your community) healthy! Dr. Katz does not believe in over vaccinating pets- each vaccine protocol is individually tailored to each pet’s lifestyle.
